Lib Dem PPC Speaks Out Against Relocation of Skipton Tax Office

8.13.54am UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 20th May 2007

James Keeley, the Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Skipton has spoken out against the proposal to relocate 40 to 50 staff from the local tax office in Skipton. Mr. Keeley has sent a letter to, Mr. Paul Gray, the Chair of HM Customs and Revenue telling him of his objection to the plan.

Mr. Keeley said:

"People need local services to stay local. Local people should be there to help the public with their financial questions and problems. This provides many benefits including a very high quality of service which in turn should inevitably lead to the more efficient collection of taxation."

I stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow Liberal Democrats, who in turn stand shoulder to shoulder with the people threatened with relocation. We give them our full support. We are going to fight these plans every step of the way."
